Account written by Dudley Atkins Tyng, ca. 1800, pertaining to his experiences with the people of the Isles of Shoals (off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine) while he was the Collector of Customs in Newburyport, Mass. in 1795. The incomplete account includes a brief history of the island communities, his observations of the current social and political climate on the islands, and his role in the appointment of a religious teacher on the islands by the Society for Propagating the Gospel Among the Indians and Others in North America. Also includes letters written by Tyng and Josiah Stevens pertaining to the islands, 1801-02, and by Henry Lee and Waldo Higginson pertaining to Tyng's manuscript, 1885.
